Sadiq Umar promises Glasgow Rangers fans that he will run and run and bags of goals

NEW Glasgow Rangers striker Sadiq Umar has promised the club's fans that they will soon be thrilled with his performances because he is a player who runs non-stop[ and grafts for the team whenever he is on the pitch.

Nigerian Olympic team striker, Umar, 21, a six foot three targetman who excels at holding the ball up and bringing his team mates into play, joined Rangers earlier this month on a season-long loan from Italian side Roma. One of the first signings of new Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, Umar has already been handed his favourite number 97 at Ibrox and is now waiting for his work permit to enable him play.

Speaking alongside Gerrard yesterday, Umar said he is keeping fit by giving his all in training and promised the fans that he will replicate the form that made him a fan favourite at Dutch league side NAC Breda, where he spent the second half of last season on loan. He added that once he gets the all clear to play, the fans will see him everything for the club.

"I will say my strength is in my ability to use my physical attributes to great advantage. Running is not one of my strength but a lot of people know that I’m never tired of running behind when there’s a chance to score.

” To the fans of Rangers they will get to love me when I start playing because goals like the ones that made me famous at Breda will be my aim as soon as I get the all clear to start playing," Umar added.

Upon joining Breda in January, Umar ended the season with five goals in 12 games in the Dutch Eredivisie to help the modest team beat the drop. At the Rio 2016 Olympics Umar, popularly known as Jololo, was Nigeria's top scorer and the Kaduna-born striker is hoping to reach similar heights in Glasgow.

Although Gerrard admitted Umar will face challenges of a new environment and different tactics to what he has been used to in Italy and Holland, he said he believes his new signing has enough talent to make a mark with Rangers and in the future. Gerrard stressed that Umar is ready to take his career to the next level and believes the lad will do even better than he had with Breda last season.

Gerrard added: “He’s a player of huge potentials who is ready to move to the next level. He did fantastically well in Holland.”
