Musa waits to see if his strike against Iceland will be voted World Cup Goal of the Tournament

SUPER Eagles striker Ahmed Musa is waiting with bated breath until July 23 to see if his wonder strike against Iceland at the World Cup will be voted as the goal of the tournament after it was shortlisted alongside 17 others by Fifa.

Musa, who scored twice against Iceland when Nigeria beat them 2-0 during their group match at the World Cup, has had his second strike shortlisted as one of the goals of the tournament. Under Fifa's guidelines, members of the public will vote through the Fifa website on which of the 18 goals they consider the best.

Voting will remain open until Monday 23 July in a contest that involves strikes from some of the world's greats, including Neymar, Luka Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. It is the last individual accolade to be presented by the football governing body having already named the best player (Luka Modric, Croatia), best young player (Kylian Mbappe, France), top goalscorer (Harry Kane, England), top goalkeeper (Thibaut Curtois) and Fair play team of the tourney (Spain).

Reacting to Fifa's decision to shortlist one of his goals, Musa took to his Instagram page to describe his nomination as an honour. He said: “It is an honour to be nominated for Goal of the Tournament. One of my best football memories so far!

"Go on to Fifa.com and cast your vote before 23rd July. Your love and support is always appreciated. Naija All the way.”
