Belgian side Gent look to prise Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo away from Chelsea

SUPER Eagles centreback Kenneth Omeruo could be on his way out of Chelsea and off to Belgium after Jupiler League side Gent identified him as a player they for the forthcoming season as the team prepares for the Europa League.

Omeruo, 24, joined Chelsea in January 2012 as a teenager and was loaned out to Dutch Eredivisie side Ado Den Haag immediately and since then has played for several other clubs on loan. However, Omeruo has said he is tired of moving from one club to another every transfer window and wants to stay or leave Stamford Bridge permanently this summer as he is tired of the nomadic lifestyle.

Having just had a good World Cup where he played brilliantly in Nigeria's back three, Omeruo is now being looked at by several European clubs. Last season, a strong showing at his Turkey club Kasimpasa was followed by his impressive display in Russia, so he is hoping to make a permanent move this summer.

Omeruo, however, still has two years to run on his Chelsea contract and a decision will not be made on his exit from unless the issue of who will be in charge of the team is settled as there are doubts over the future of Antonio Conte. Former Napoli coach Maurizo Sarri is the favourite for the job and if he is eventually appointed, he will be the one to decide on Omeruo's future.
