Leicester abandon plans to sell Ahmed Musa and ask him to report for pre-season training

ENGLISH Premiership side Leicester City has backtracked on its planned sale of Ahmed Musa to Turkish giants Galatasaray following his brilliant World Cup outing and asked him to report for pre-season training.

Leicester manager Claude Puel is currently looking to overhaul his squad for the new season, with Musa one of those players expected to leave this summer. Last week, Musa's agent said they are in talks with Turkish club Galatasaray over a loan deal with an option to buy and have had offers from other clubs too.

Apparently, Leicester are understood to be keen to sell rather than loan but would want to recoup as much of the £16m they paid to CSKA Moscow in 2016, which was a club record at the time. Musa spent the second half of last season on loan at former club CSKA, where he scored seven goals in 16 appearances.

However, following Musa's magnificent World Cup outing in which he not only scored two goals against Iceland but also put in a yeoman's performance against Argentina, Leicester have had a rethink. Leicester have decided against selling the player to any of his suitors who include the likes of  Galatasary, Benfica, Olympique Marseille and fellow Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.

One source close to the player, said: "Musa won’t be leaving Leicester City immediately. They have backtracked on plans to sell him.

"He has been told to resume for pre season as the club want to have a chat with him over his future. For now they have shelved the decision to sell him."

Musa became the first Nigerian player to score in two World Cups after his brace against Iceland last week. In 2014, he also scored twice against Argentina but unfortunately, was unable to repeat this feat on Tuesday when the teams met.
