Russia's city of Kaliningrad unveils piece of artwork featuring Nigerian footballer

RUSSIA'S city of Kaliningrad has displayed a piece of artwork featuring a Nigerian footballer as part of its package to welcome Nigeria’s national football team the Super Eagles to the World Cup.

 

Yesterday, the Super Eagles arrived in Russia for their sixth World Cup campaign which they will get going on Saturday when the team faces Croatia in Kaliningrad. Immediately the team landed, they were driven to their base camp in Yessentuki. After facing Croatia next Saturday, the eagles will fly to Volgograd to face Iceland and then end their group games with a match against Argentina in Saint Petersburg.

 

Throughout the campaign though, the team will be based in Yessentuki, the cultural capital of Russia's Greek population. Yesterday, Yessentuki welcomed the team and as further part of the Russian hospitality, Kaliningrad unveiled this special feature.

 

Located at the arena Baltika Stadium on Oktyabrsky Island of Kaliningrad, the artwork features a Nigerian footballer wearing the famous jersey number 10. Kaliningrad’s football stadium is one of 11 venues, where four matches of groups B, D, E and G will be played involving Belgium, Croatia, England, Morocco, Nigeria, Serbia, Spain and Switzerland.
