Nigerians in the UK yet to sight President Buhari three days after his supposed arrival

buhari imgNIGERIANS in the UK are still uncertain about the whereabouts of President Muhammadu Buhari as he has not been sighted in the country since leaving Abuja on Sunday night to continue his medical treatment.

After receiving the 82 Chibok girls recently freed by Boko Haram, President Buhari jetted out of the country to receive treatment for a nagging but unnamed ailment. Earlier this year, President Buhari had spent 50 days in London receiving treatment and only returned to Nigeria in March.

Upon returning, however, he made it clear it clear he would need to travel abroad again soon as his doctors had advised him to return to London. Over recent weeks, the president has been so unwell that he has not been attending Federal Executive Council meetings, has been unable to attend any functions and the only public sightings of him have been his weekly appearance at Jumaat prayers on Friday.

Over the weekend, however, he wrote to the National Assembly, informing legislators that he would be handing over the reins of power to vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo again. Since Sunday, however, no one has seen the president in London, despite dozens of Nigerians camping at airports awaiting his arrival.

This is the second big controversy surrounding the latest trip as already, several members of the National Assembly are up in arms over the content of the letter the president wrote to them in which he handed over power to Professor Osinbajo. President Buhari's letter apparently stated that the vice president will coordinate national affairs in his absence rather than the usual naming him as acting president.

Some senators have asked that the letter be sent back and President Buhari write a fresh one, sticking to the usual language. It is unclear when President Buhari will be back as he aides say he will be guided by the advice of his medical team.
