SUPER Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has revealed the line-up for tonight's game against the Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo featuring the two debutants Junior Lokosa and Simy Nwankwo.
As part of the team's preparations for the World Cup, Nigeria is facing the Leopards today and on Saturday June 2 will lock horns with England at Wembley. After the England game, Coach Rohr will name his final 23 for the World Cup before heading to Austria to face up to the Czech Republic enroute to Russia.
For tonight's game, Mr Rohr picked goalkeeper Francis Uzoho to start in goal with Leon Balogun, Tyronne Ebuehi, Elderson Echiejile and William Troost-Ekong completing the back four. Captain of the team John Obi Mikel is rested in the midfield with the trio of Joel Obi, Oghenekaro Etebo and Ogenyi Onazi starting in midfield while Kelechi Iheanacho is picked to lead the attack alongside Kelechi Iheanacho, Junior Lokosa and Crotone forward Simy Nwankwo.
Lokosa was the leading scorer in the Nigerian league, finding the back of the net 18 times for his clubside Kano Pillars. For his part, Nwankwo, 26, is a late bloomer at international level and in his seven-odd years in Europe, he has scored 55 goals from 188 league appearances, averaging a goal every 3.4 games.
