Former Chelsea star Tony Cascarino advices Emery to get rid of Iwobi if Arsenal are to succeed

FORMER Chelsea and Republic of Ireland striker Tony Cascarino has advised new Arsenal manager Unai Emery to get rid of Alex Iwobi along with seven other players at the club because he does not think the Super Eagles midfielder is good enough.

Earlier this week, Arsenal unveiled former Paris Saint Germain coach Emery as their new manager to replace the long-serving Arsene Wenger. At the start of the new season after the World Cup, Mr Emery will have the arduous task of returning Arsenal to their winning ways, which characterised the start of the Wenger era.

However, Cascarino said that to achieve this, the new manager must get rid of players like Iwobi who will never be top four Premier League club players. Iwobi, who is currently with the Super Eagles squad in preparation for the World Cup in Russia, has scored three goals and provided seven assists in 39 games for the Gunners this season.

Cascarino said: “I don’t think he will ever be a top-four player, which is what Arsenal need.”

He named the other six players Emery needs to show the exit door as Hector Bellerin, Petr Cech, Shkodran Mustafi, Laurent Koscielny, Calum Chambers, Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil. Most of them will be featuring in this summer's World Cup, so the new coach will have to decide on who he wants while they are away.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles midfielder enforcer Wilfred Ndidi is expected to join the team’s full training today amid signs that he has fully recovered from a recent hamstring injury. Considered one of the best ball winners in the world, Ndidi, 21, missed the end of the season with his club Leicester City and although he has reported to the Eagles camp in Uyo, he has since been training alone.

Team spokesman Toyin Ibitoye, said: “He is running well without any pains, he has recovered faster than we expected. He is now being loaded slowly and gradually to build his match fitness.”
