Zamfara state government opens 289 feeding centres so its Muslims can feed during Ramadan

ZAMFARA State government has established 289 feeding centres across its territory to enable less privileged Muslims to access food that will allow them to break their fast during the Ramadan period.

Nigerian Muslims like their counterparts elsewhere, are observing the month-long fasting period that involves going without food from dawn to dusk and breaking the fast in the evening with a meal. However, Zamfara, which is almost wholly Muslim, remains one of the poorest states in Nigeria with a lot of destitute and hungry citizens.

Alhaji Aminu Dankwangila, the chairman state's Ramadan Feeding Committee, said that 238 out of the 289 centres were in Gusau and its environs. Adding that the gesture is aimed at assisting the needy in the holy month of Ramadan, he urged members of the feeding committee and food vendors to ensure fairness and justice while discharging their duties.

“In each of these centres, we provide Ramadan breakfast for 70 people and we provide various delicious foods in each of these centres every day. We have 238 centres around Gusau, the state capital and the remaining 51 were established across the 17 emirates in the state, with three per emirate," Alhaji Dankwangila added.

Currently serving as the special adviser to the state governor on the Zamfara Comprehensive Agricultural Revolution Programme, Alhaji Dankwangila is responsible for combating food shortages in the state. He said that the state government under the leadership of Governor Abdul’aziz Yari through the ministry for religious affairs has been providing this Ramadan feeding service every year.
