KOGI West's Senate representative Senator  Dino Melaye has fired a salvo at President Muhammadu Buhari over several of his appointments claiming that they have done more harm than good to Nigerians as some of them now constitute a criminocracy.

ANAMBRA State governor Willie Obiano has erected a cenotaph in Awka in remembrance of the dead who died during the Nigerian Civil War on the 30th anniversary of the declaration of the Republic of Biafra.


On May 30, Igbos marked Biafra Remembrance day as 30 years in 1967, its former leader Odumegwu Ojukwu declared it as an independent state, triggering a 30-mont civil war. Across southeast Nigeria, the day was marked with a sit-at-home protest that had been called by the Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob), which is agitating for the recreation of Biafra.

Southeast governors distance themselves from calls for secession and Ipob's sit-at-home protest

GOVERNORS of the five Igbo states of the southeast geo-political zone have distanced themselves from the ongoing calls for the recreation of the breakaway Biafran republic saying that they believe in Ndigbo remaining part of Nigeria.


Today is Biafra Remembrance Day as it was 30 years ago on May 30 1967 that the breakaway republic was first declared. To mark the day, secessionist campaigners like the Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob) have called for a sit-in across the southeast, urging Igbos not to go to work.

NIGERIA'S Super Eagles played a 1-1 draw with the Corsica national team in Ajaccio last night after Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho equalised from the penalty spot in the 80th minute of the game.

In the match which took place at the Stade Francois Coty, Jean-Jacques Mandrichi put the Corsicans in front in the half before Iheanacho levelled matters late in the game from the spot. Nigeria's head coach Gernot Rohr, handed new recruits Tyronne Ebuehi, Henry Onyekuru and Ibrahim Alhassan starting places in a new-look team.


UK diaspora body swears in new executive committee to run its affairs for the next two years

DIASPORA umbrella body the Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (Canuk) has elected a new set of officials to govern its affairs for the next two years following the successful conclusion of a stormy annual general meeting (AGM) today.

At the volatile meeting which took place at the Nigerian High Commission in London, Emmanuel Namah, the welfare minister had to repeatedly intervene to calm nerves. A faction of the former executive committee led by its chairman Tunde Loye had wanted to annul the elections and extend their tenure in office.


Super Eagles to face national team of French tourist island Corsica in Ajaccio tonight

NIGERIA'S Super Eagles will face the national team of Corsica today at the Stade Francois Coty in Ajaccio in a friendly game organised to get the squad prepared for its forthcoming World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

At the venue on the French island, the play the national team in a warm-up game ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on June 10. As Corsica is technically part of France and not a Fifa-registered member, the game will not count as a Grade A friendly
